Cardiovascular Disease Treatment Impacts Low-income Patients

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to the group of heart and blood vessel disorders, and it also includes hypertension coronary heart disease. CVD causes one out of every four deaths yearly. Many of the people who suffer from CVD are low-income. With overpriced healthcare in the US, it becomes hard to get treatment.

Low-income patients who suffered from CVD mentioned how difficult it is to put food on the table or keep a roof over their head, and especially having to afford to see a doctor. It is crucial to know what can decrease getting a CVD. The most important factor is having a healthier diet and making sure to maintain it. Eating nutrition-rich foods that contain vegetables and fruit is vital. Being well-hydrated is essential, and exercising every once in a while never hurts.

According to a study from 2014 to 2015, CVDs cost the US approximately $219 billion. On top of that, more than 80% of deaths caused by CVDs occur in low-income countries. Low-income individuals are afraid to get help or don’t have the means to do so. Nothing gets done, and the people actually affected by the disease often do not make it out alive.

As a result, the cost of CVD treatment incredibly affects low-income patients.
