What is Autism?

Autism is a disorder that can affect

an individual’s speech, behavior and social life.

Autism is also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder

(ASD).


Diagnosis

There is no medicinal type of test that can diagnose

Autism. The doctors must instead look at a person’s

actions, speech, and behavior and evaluate whether

or not they may be on the autistic spectrum.


Symptoms

Symptoms vary on a case to case basis, but very common symptoms include:

-Getting upset with new changes

-Minimal/No eye contact

-Does not respond to their name by the age 12 months

-Rocking back and forth

-Flapping hands

-Spinning in circles


Related Disorders

Related disorders, sometimes called “comorbidities”, can include:

-Social Communication disorders

-Intellectual disability

-Specific learning disability

-Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
